2 versions of Rachel’s tune “McLeods of Waipu”

I named this lullaby McLeods of Waipu after discovering a surprising connection to the New Zealand village while on tour in 2020. Reverend Norman McLeod, a former schoolteacher from my home village of Ullapool, led Gaelic-speaking Highlanders to Waipu, and seeing reminders of my roots 17,000 miles away and the results of the Highland Clearances was very moving.

  • D Major
  • Elementary – intermediate level
  • Video at YouTube.come/rachelhair
  • Duo harp & guitar version on the album Élan
  • Full arrangement (4 pages long): This version is the full solo arrangement of the tune that I tend to perform live. I tend to vary the left hand chord pattern, but this gives you an idea of how I generally play it.
  • Simpler Arrangement (2 pages long):This arrangement has full fingering, chords and a simpler left hand. The break section is optional, but remember the piece always finishes by playing the first part of the melody again.
